About the event
Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were no longer enslaved. This program will also highlight the seven African American Civil War veterans that are buried in the Cedar Street cemetery. One of which is Richard Jordan, who was brought to Gettysburg during the battle by his owner, who was a Confederate Officer. Mr. Jordan managed to escape found his way to Mt. Holly Springs, and joined the Union Army. After the war he returned to Mt. Holly Springs and remained until his death.
